traveling this spring? here's why you should notify ccu

As the weather warms up and spring approaches, many of us are itching to go on adventures and explore new places. Whether it's a weekend getaway or an extended vacation, traveling during springtime is a popular choice for families, students, and individuals alike. However, during the excitement of planning our trips, it's crucial not to overlook one important step: notifying Commonwealth Credit Union to set up travel alerts.

Why is it important to set up travel notifications?

  1. Fraud Prevention: One of the primary reasons for setting up travel notifications is to prevent fraudulent activity on your accounts. When you inform CCU about your travel plans, we can make a note of it in our system. This helps us distinguish between transactions made by you while you're away and suspicious activity that may be fraud. Without this notification, we may flag your transactions as unusual, leading to your card being frozen for security reasons.
  2. Peace of Mind: By notifying us about your travel plans, you can enjoy your trip with peace of mind. Should any issues arise with your account while you're traveling, such as unauthorized charges or card theft, we can take appropriate action to safeguard your finances.
  3. Convenience: Setting up travel notifications also adds a layer of convenience to your experience. By informing us in advance, you can avoid potential disruptions to your transactions while you're away. Whether you need to withdraw cash from an ATM, make purchases with your debit or credit card, or access online banking, informing us about your travel plans ensures smoother transactions without any hiccups.

How to set up travel notifications with Commonwealth Credit Union:

  • Call: You can easily notify us about your travel plans by giving us a call at 800.228.6420. You can speak to one of our team members who will assist you in setting up the travel notification for your account. This option is convenient and allows you to communicate directly with our Financial Service Representatives.
  • Visit a Branch: Another option is to visit your nearest Commonwealth Credit Union branch in person. There, you can speak to a team member at the branch, who will guide you through the process of setting up travel notifications for your account. This option may be preferred by those who prefer face-to-face interactions or need assistance with other financial matters before their trip.
  • Digital Banking App: For tech-savvy members who enjoy the convenience of digital banking, setting up travel notifications is just a few taps away. Simply log in to the CCU Mobile App, tap the three bars at the top left corner, and select travel notification. Once you reach the Card Controls page, select which cards you’d like to place a travel notification on. Within the Card Details page of each selected account, click “Schedule Travel for This Card” – this is where you will add your U.S. States and/or Countries you’ll be traveling to and through on your journey. It’s as simple as that!

Things to Note:

Regardless of which notification method you choose, you’ll need to provide details about any states you'll be driving through or flying to, including layovers where you might use your card. This additional information helps us accurately track your card activity and distinguish legitimate transactions from potential fraud.

It's also important to note that these travel notifications are not automatically applied to your account; they are manually processed by our team members. That means, if you submit your travel notification on a weekend, it won't go into effect until the next business day, typically Monday. This process ensures that your travel plans are carefully noted and that we can provide you with the best possible protection for your finances while you're away. So, remember to plan ahead and notify us in advance to avoid any delays or complications with your account during your travels.

Setting up travel notifications with Commonwealth Credit Union is a simple yet essential step to ensure a smooth and secure banking experience while you're on the road. By taking a few moments to notify us about your travel plans through any of the stated options, you can enjoy your spring adventures with confidence, knowing that your finances are in good hands. Safe travels!
