Celebrating Education: Our 2025 Teacher of the Year Winners
At Commonwealth Credit Union, we believe in recognizing those who go above and beyond not only in their professions, but in the lives of those around them. Each year, during Teacher Appreciation Week , we proudly present our Teacher of the Year Awards to two outstanding educators: one from the Louisville metro region and one from the Lexington and surrounding areas. Each honoree receives a $1,000 award as a thank you for the impact they have made on their students, schools, and communities.
This year, we’re honored to introduce our 2025 Teacher of the Year winners:
Jennifer Hoban, Louisville Metro Winner

Jennifer Hoban’s classroom at the Louisville Collegiate School is more than a place of learning, it's the site of encouragement, inspiration, and cultural exploration. As a French teacher and the head of the school’s Language Department, Jennifer has facilitated the increase in students’ interest in world language.
Her passion for language education goes far beyond vocabulary. Jennifer has led numerous trips abroad, including immersive stays in France, giving her students real-world experiences that shape their understanding of the world. Those who have experienced her classroom say that it is a welcoming space where they feel safe, seen, and supported.
Jennifer’s dedication has earned her national and state-level recognition, including awards from the American Association of Teachers of French, the Kentucky World Language Association, and more. Most recently, she completed her term as President of KWLA, where she advocated for language learning across Kentucky.
Sarah Blades, Lexington Area Winner

For Sarah Blades, teaching is a mission of compassion, equity, and community. At Lexington Traditional Magnet School (LTMS), she wears many hats: teacher, mentor, role model, and even personal advocate. Whether it’s attending her students’ games or changing grade levels mid-year to support her school’s needs, Sarah leads with heart.
Recognizing the challenges many of her students face, Sarah took initiative to create a “community closet” stocked with essentials, sometimes purchased with her own money, to make sure every student feels supported and valued. She is also the KEA Central District President and a dedicated volunteer for LTMS athletics, embodying what it means to be a servant leader.
Her actions speak volumes: no student is left behind, and every one is reminded daily that they matter.
Nominate a Teacher Next Year!
We’re proud to honor educators like Jennifer and Sarah who dedicate their lives to helping others grow, learn, and thrive. If you know a teacher who’s making a difference inside and outside of the classroom, keep an eye out for next spring! Our Teacher of the Year nominations will open again in time for Teacher Appreciation Week 2026.
In the meantime, let’s keep celebrating changemakers who shape the future—one student at a time!
